Rescue operation underway, fears death toll might rise further
At least 17 people were killed and over 60 injured when two intercity trains collided head-on in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh in accident in 12-11-2019
“Chittagong-bound Udayan Express from Sylhet and Dhaka-bound Turna Nishita collided near Mondobhag Railway Station around 3:30am on Tuesday.
"The accident occurred because the loco masters did not obey the signals."
Many people were death at spot. Many people has lost different organs at the spot. Overall, there were a catastrophic situation occurred.
"Rescue operation is on underway, and authority have opened a control room to facilitate the operation."
Fire Service and the Civil Defense control room duty officer Barkatullah said that the death numbers might rise as the rescue operation progresses further.
The train services in Dhaka to Chittagong route and Chittagong to Sylhet route were snapped following the accident.
Meanwhile, three separate probe committees from Railways Ministry of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Railway and Brahmanbaria district administration have been formed to investigate the accident.
